CRIME & PUNISHMENT

The idyllic mountain town of Wayward Pines takes the happiness of its citizens very seriously — and that means taking their safety seriously, whether that's protecting them from other citizens or, if necessary, themselves. Helpfully, in addition to the notices placed throughout town, there is a comprehensive listing of the town's laws that can be perused at the library, city hall, or even the sheriff's station, should you feel like stopping by for a cone of water from the cooler and a refresher on the rules that keep Wayward Pines a full and thriving community. They're divided into only two classes of crimes for simplicity, though you may notice that nowhere does it mention the consequences of breaking these laws. They must not expect that to be something a conscientious citizen like yourself will ever need to worry about.

Below you will find a list of punishable offenses in Wayward Pines. While it's the same list that's ICly available to your character, it is obviously by no means comprehensive, and the town authorities — and your mods — will occasionally need to judge on a case-by-case basis. This post is where you will both be able to keep track of your character's rulebreaking and any failures to integrate via our spreadsheet, as well as "report" their crimes to the mods to determine what consequences they're facing. However, MISDEMEANORS can generally be assumed to include minor infractions that will require, for example, fines paid or the occasional night in the drunk tank at the station, while FELONIES will warrant a more severe response and result in the step-by-step process outlined in our FAQ.

REPORT A CRIME!

You may use the following form to report your character's lawless ways. Please keep in mind that only felonies need be reported (though we won't stop you if you want to find out what happens when your character starts a bar fight). If you'd like to give them a chance to not get caught, say so in the appropriate spot on the form; your mods will roll some dice and get back to you with the results! Note that getting caught does not necessarily mean being punished — but it does go on their IC police record to be taken into account along with future lawbreaking.

Later that day, after Laura's post has been removed from the network and before any others have gone up, the Sheriff arrives.

May we ask who answers the door?

We have confirmed -- Logan Mr. Howlett will be answering the door!

Also he says, and I quote, "Get the fuck out."

The frown on his face turns a little harder at that, but it doesn't seem to deter him. Mr. Howlett, he's here to talk to you about your daughter. This is a peaceful town, and we can't having her stirring up a panic. Now, they understand she's just a little girl who's been very confused lately, so they're willing to let her off light, do some community service to remind her she's part of this town, too.

"What the fuck is there for her to be confused about? She cut a tracking device out of her leg. So did I. How about you tell me why they were there in the first place, or you can just get the hell off of my porch."

The Sheriff glances at your legs, as though doubting the veracity of this story based purely on your ability to be up and walking around (and mouthing off) after such a claim. But he keeps silent about that, instead saying that this is quite a serious accusation, and if you have some kind of evidence that it's true, he'd be very interested to see it.

Laura had been watching this all play out slowly from behind a corner, peering like a cat on edge. But at some point she gets fed up and stomps off; when she returns, it's to shove through under her dad's arm to wave her hand at the sheriff in annoyance. In her hands, the small remains of the tracker, dry blood on it. "Mira, por favor, mira," she huffs impatiently.

He steps to the side to try to get a better look at it using the sunlight beyond the covered porch, but it is very small. He asks you if you don't mind handing it over so he can take a closer look.

She looks suspiciously at him -- glances at her father -- but does eventually give in and gives it to the sheriff with the offer of a firm scowl.

He steps to the edge of the porch to hold it where he can actually see it in his palm. He sighs. "It's not much to go on, especially good and cut up like this. I'll look into it. In the meantime, you didn't bring this to me in the first place and caused a ruckus on our message board instead, so I'll still see you," he looks down at Laura pointedly, "in the morning next Saturday to pick up some trash."

She stares with a scowl, already plotting to bring in another and slam it right on his desk later. Oh, just wait, Mr. Sheriff. She'll pile them up if she has to. Rice grain after rice grain until you could make some fucking stuffed peppers.

Until then, she reaches out and grabs Logan's sleeve, staring gravely at the sheriff.

"Okay. I can. La peor basura del pueblo no puede ser recogida."
