CRIME & PUNISHMENT

The idyllic mountain town of Wayward Pines takes the happiness of its citizens very seriously — and that means taking their safety seriously, whether that's protecting them from other citizens or, if necessary, themselves. Helpfully, in addition to the notices placed throughout town, there is a comprehensive listing of the town's laws that can be perused at the library, city hall, or even the sheriff's station, should you feel like stopping by for a cone of water from the cooler and a refresher on the rules that keep Wayward Pines a full and thriving community. They're divided into only two classes of crimes for simplicity, though you may notice that nowhere does it mention the consequences of breaking these laws. They must not expect that to be something a conscientious citizen like yourself will ever need to worry about.

Below you will find a list of punishable offenses in Wayward Pines. While it's the same list that's ICly available to your character, it is obviously by no means comprehensive, and the town authorities — and your mods — will occasionally need to judge on a case-by-case basis. This post is where you will both be able to keep track of your character's rulebreaking and any failures to integrate via our spreadsheet, as well as "report" their crimes to the mods to determine what consequences they're facing. However, MISDEMEANORS can generally be assumed to include minor infractions that will require, for example, fines paid or the occasional night in the drunk tank at the station, while FELONIES will warrant a more severe response and result in the step-by-step process outlined in our FAQ.

REPORT A CRIME!

You may use the following form to report your character's lawless ways. Please keep in mind that only felonies need be reported (though we won't stop you if you want to find out what happens when your character starts a bar fight). If you'd like to give them a chance to not get caught, say so in the appropriate spot on the form; your mods will roll some dice and get back to you with the results! Note that getting caught does not necessarily mean being punished — but it does go on their IC police record to be taken into account along with future lawbreaking.

But we can't have you stirring up trouble. Why don't you take a few days at home to recover? This all comes off as a friendly suggestion, of course, and he tips his hat with a magnanimous smile as he heads off.

This time, the Sheriff's visit isn't nearly so cordial. Only just a few weeks ago did he warn you about stirring up trouble. The people in this town live a happy, peaceful life. The Sheriff isn't going to let one guy with a goddamn chip on his shoulder ruin that. Next time he has to talk to you, it's going to be an arrest.

Attached is an itemized bill for labor and replacement fixtures (i.e., smoke detectors, overhead lights, etc.), though the prices seem more than a little inflated.

He knows it can take some time to recover from an ordeal like Jefferson's accident, but it's been a couple of months, enough time to be past this nonsense. He should also avoid giving in to peer pressure, because those sorts of folks don't have his best interests at heart.

This time, the Sheriff's visit isn't nearly so cordial. The people in this town don't appreciate having a neighbor who disturbs the peace like a lunatic while they go about their lives. If it happens again, he'll be forced to make an arrest for everyone's good, Jefferson's included.

Outright talked about life in the Enchanted Forest, Wonderland, and Storybrooke before Rumlow destroyed the cameras.

The Sheriff has his eye on you, so you bet your britches this got noticed. However, nothing seems to come of it, at least for now.

We have laws about this sort of thing, after all, and everyone needs to abide by them. He gives Steve a lazy salute as he heads off.

This talk doesn't seem to have any negative repercussions. In fact, a couple of the cops nod a friendly hello throughout the day, and they'll notice the Sheriff seems to be watching them a little less closely from then on out.

Aside from the disappearance of the corpse from the bathroom the next time it's left in the house unattended, nothing seems to come of it, at least for now. Also that day, Steve will be left another note from the Happy Home Association, letting him know that the wiring in the house has been inspected, and damaged fixtures have been replaced. There's another itemized bill for labor and replacement fixtures (i.e., smoke detectors, overhead lights, etc.), and again, the cost is slightly exorbitant.

This time, the Sheriff's visit isn't nearly so cordial, and he seems especially agitated as he gives you a talking to and makes it clear that your standing in the community doesn't exempt you from the law — and he will arrest you if it comes to that.

The Sheriff understands that young children can be especially out of sorts after an accident like Laura's, so he'll leave her alone to make a full recovery without intrusion. He thinks it's a good idea to keep an eye out for any more violent incidents, however.

If two weeks go by without payment, he will start getting daily phone calls from debt collectors. After a month from the date of the initial bill, a final notice of one week to pay will be delivered, and calls will start to come in multiple times a day. (The debt collectors of Wayward Pines have a lot of time on their hands.) After this final grace period, his wages will begin to be garnished, and his failure to pay will be on record with the Sheriff.

How will they garnish his wages if he has his own business? After the third call in a row though, he would try to visit the debt collection offices.

Assuming Rumlow runs his business legitimately, all earnings must still go through official channels, from which he receives his own paycheck. The woman who makes the calls identifies herself as calling from the Wayward Pines Happy Home Association, and he's welcome to visit the office if it's simpler to pay there than by mail.

He will say he'll come to discuss the issue and arrive within the hour to immediately state that he's got a problem with he invoice.

Smart choice, my dude. The Sheriff will probably note that she doesn't like the police there, but she's especially not fond of him; attempts to talk to her will probably be a very curt and monotone "Yo no hablo inglés." and her leaving the conversation/area.

Caught?: i'm up for whatever!! it's gonna start pretty innocently, with maybe like, creamsicles or cornettos/drumsticks on the patio of murderhouse. buuuut if they find out it's going to irritate people, it might get more out of hand: like two gallons for ibaraki. eating with four spoons. in two hands and two prehensile feet.

Nature of crime: Assault. During the Sudden Recall event, Bucky had an outburst and temporarily lost control of himself. He publicly smashed a table at Java Joe's and then, when approached by Laura Kinney, lashed out and hit her. A GLORIOUS FIGHT ENSUED. It was pretty badass. Bet it was fun and/or terrifying for bystanders to watch. They fought to a stalemate, presumably until the police arrived. Bucky did not resist arrest.

Nature of crime: Assault; After grabbing an afternoon coffee at Java Joe's, Laura approached a man who seemed to be having trouble to see if he was alright. He punched her into a table, and she stood up and retaliated. An awesome Avengers vs X-Men battle ensued! Too bad we'll never see this fight on film! They fought to a stalemate, and when the police arrived, Laura went quietly and without incident.

Nature of crime:

- Upon arrival in February, she was frantic and searching for her baby daughter and husband, asking about them to several other patients
- Stretching to the mid of March, she visits the hospital to check on the children's wards. The first time she asks about her daughter. After that, she just visits without saying why she's there.
- First week of March, alluded to the restrictions in town in the teacher's room with Steve.
- March 15th, during the storm, Jiaying reveals her true identity as Skye's mother and tells Daisy her real name. It started out in the storm and later proceeds to Skye's house. She tries to be discreet and keeps in the blind spot of the camera of Skye's home but it was an emotional time, so...
- During March/April arrivals, spoke about how accidents seem to be a reoccurring theme to a couple of new arrivals
- Early May, alluded to her past in a therapy session with Pietro.

It's a small office, just two desks and a poorly hidden water cooler/break area behind a divider. There's only one middle-aged woman there, and Rumlow will recognize the name on her tag from identifying herself over the phone: Silvia. She tells him that if he'd given her the chance, she could have saved him the trouble of coming down just to complain, since she has no control over bill adjustment. The HHA simply enforces the laws set by the local government; they're the ones who garnish the wages, and good luck getting the Sheriff to budge.

Not only are these two troublemakers found out, the Sheriff himself catches them red-handed while strolling away from the station to do a quick patrol through town before getting a bite to eat himself. He sees the pair of them and... gives them both the stink-eye, but it seems like that may not have much to do with the ice cream so much as their general state of being. Hope you girls are keeping cool, he says with mild warning in his voice, before being on his way.

Wherever he happens to be, the Sheriff arrives at Steve's location on the morning of May 12th to make an arrest. Where does the Sheriff find him, and does he go peacefully or resist arrest?
